Ageless Betty earns accolade
Reaching retirement for many people is an opportunity to put your feet up and watch the world go by - unless your name is Betty Hunter. Betty, in her 60s, is the managing director of Care Associates, coordinating 70 staff on call to look after the elderly in Coventry - proving age is no barrier in business.
The organization, which offers a 24hour on-call service, is one of the latest achievers of Investors in People accreditation.
Betty established Care Associates in 1995 carrying with her more than 20 years of experience line managing various homes and career services in Coventry, where she rose from carer to senior management. She spoke to Carole Manship, Business Link business advisor at The Chamber in 1997, and working together they developed the organisation's business plan.
Said Betty: " We have received a lot of valuable help from Carole and The Chamber, growing our client base every year, and at the same time managing to maintain a very high percentage of staff retention." Chamber director Peter Shearing said: "It is a pleasure to present this award to Care Associates, as there is no greater example of an organization investing in its people for the benefit of other people. Care Associates, based in Queen Victoria Road, provides care to vulnerable people in the community, specializing in dementia care. .
